Construct Validity - EPQR & Klines PPQ

Once we have ascertained the reliability of a test, we must address its validity. It is important to know that the constructs we are measuring are valid, that it is indeed measuring the characteristic it purports to measure. The following data demonstrates that the dimensions of the 15FQ™ are consistent with similar measures of personality.

The Relationship between the 15FQ™ and EPQR & I7

A sample of 221 volunteers completed both the 15FQ™ and the EPQR and I7 as part of a test validation exercise...

As can be observed from the table above, both EPQR Extraversion and Neuroticism are well measured by 15FQ™ dimensions. Extraversion correlates substantially with 15FQ™ Outgoing, Enthusiasm, Social Boldness and inversely with Self-sufficiency. Neuroticism on the EPQR is related to all three principal 15FQ™ anxiety measures: Calm-stable, Self-doubting and Tense-driven. Psychoticism is not well measured by 15FQ™ as would be expected. There are small tendencies for psychotics to be more radical, unrestrained, undisciplined, impulsive, suspicious and assertive although these 15FQ™ dimensions would only reflect peripheral aspects of EPQR psychoticism. The I7 scales generally share less in common with 15FQ™ than the EPQR although some meaningful associations exist. For instance, Impulsivity correlates best with 15FQ™ Enthusiastic whereas I7 Venturesomeness correlates positively with 15FQ™ Assertive, Enthusiastic and negatively with Restrained. I7 Empathy is related to 15FQ™ dimensions: Self-doubting, Restrained and low scores on Assertive.

The Relationship Between the 15FQ™ Scales and Kline's PPQ

A sample of 193 volunteers completed both the 15FQ™ and the PPQ as part of a test validation exercise. PPQ is based on the 5 Factor Model and as such provides a good test of whether 15FQ™ covers the same personality trait space proposed by Costa and McCrae (1985). Results in the table below are disappointing in that only moderate correlations were obtained between 15FQ™ and relevant PPQ factors. However, for the most part, good discrimination was obtained, in that the best statistical relationships were found to be meaningful and supportive of the 15FQ™ structure. PPQ Extraversion measure was best related to 15FQ™ Enthusiastic. PPQ Conscientious was correlated with 15FQ™ Conscientious and Disciplined (both contributing to 15FQ™ factor Control). PPQ Unconventional factor related best to 15FQ™ Radical and PPQ Tender-minded was positively associated with 15FQ™ Intuitive. Less than optimal discrimination was observed, between PPQ Insecurity and relevant 15FQ™ dimensions. From the correlational data reported above, PPQ Insecurity appears to be a better measure of social restraint than anxiety in 15FQ™ terms. This is reflected by high positive correlations with PPQ Insecurity and 15FQ™ Restrained, and negative associations with 15FQ™ Outgoing, Enthusiastic, Assertive and Socially Bold.
